Software Development Engineer (API)

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer (API) for a full\-time, on\-site position at a stealth startup in San Jose, CA. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain high\-performance APIs, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and optimized for efficiency. Your work will bridge internal systems with third\-party services, delivering seamless integrations and robust backend solutions. This position requires both hands\-on coding and a leadership mindset—providing technical guidance, ensuring adherence to industry standards, and actively collaborating with cross\-functional teams to deliver impactful features and integrations. Responsibilities * Design, develop, and maintain complex APIs in line with business requirements and best practices. * Architect service integrations between internal systems and third\-party platforms, enabling both synchronous and asynchronous data flows. * Optimize APIs to ensure performance, scalability, and security. * Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex API issues across multiple environments. * Conduct unit, integration, and performance testing to maintain reliability and stability. * Implement API documentation that is comprehensive and easy to understand. * Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and QA teams to plan, implement, and deliver features. * Stay current with emerging technologies, development best practices, and security trends. * Mentor junior developers on API development principles and industry standards. Qualifications Required: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline. * Strong foundation in computer science, algorithms, and data structures. * 5\+ years of hands\-on API development experience using Golang, Python. * Proven expertise in  RESTful API  design and development. * Proficient in backend web development and OOP principles. * Experience working with major cloud platforms such as  Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)  for API deployment, integration, and scaling. * Familiarity with version control systems like Git and advanced API testing tools. * Solid understanding of web application security and best practices. * Excellent problem\-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail. * Strong communication and collaboration skills within cross\-functional teams. * Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions, Azure Devops. Preferred: * Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration. * Knowledge of serverless architectures (AWS Lambda, etc.). * Familiarity with API management platforms. * Understanding of DevOps workflows and automated deployments. * Experience in Agile/Scrum environments. * Cybersecurity experience or certifications is a bonus. Preferable but not required.
