Software Engineer I

**Job Description:** **About the Role** We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer based in Sorocaba, Brazil, to join our global software team. The ideal candidate is an experienced backend developer with a passion for creating software that runs as fast as possible. They can communicate effectively in English and have a proven track record of building highly performant, scalable and tested cloud\-based software systems. You’ll design, implement, and maintain performance\-critical backend services used to model utility scale photovoltaic (PV) systems. **Key Responsibilities** · Design, implement, and maintain scalable performance\-critical backend services for public\-facing computation\-heavy scientific applications. · Drive down Azure costs for computation\-heavy services. · Develop and document RESTful APIs using OpenAPI (Swagger) specifications. · Ensure performance, reliability, and security across backend systems. · Write clean, testable, and maintainable code, and participate in peer code reviews. · Support deployment processes using Docker and cloud\-based CI/CD pipelines. · Collaborate across global teams, communicating comfortably in English (written and spoken). **Required Qualifications** · A commitment to continuous learning and your own professional development. · Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent technical training). · 5\+ years of backend software development experience. · Experience writing and optimizing performance\-critical code; bonus if you have experience running it on a GPU. · Proven experience implementing and maintaining APIs; bonus if they’re documented with OpenAPI standards. · Hands\-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). · Experience working on public\-facing applications (e.g., SaaS platforms, customer dashboards, or portals). · Strong understanding of RESTful design principles, microservices, and authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT). · Working knowledge of Docker and container\-based deployment. · Proficiency in English — both written and verbal — required. **Preferred Qualifications** · Experience with Go, Python or C\+\+. · Experience utilizing cloud\-based GPUs to run software you’ve written. · Experience with API gateways and service orchestration. · Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK). · Familiarity with Terraform or other Infrastructure\-as\-Code tools. · Experience working with 3d graphics. · Undergraduate level understanding of PV systems.
