Join OpenAssets and help shape the future of digital finance! **Overview** OpenAssets is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that support core platform functionality and new initiatives. This is a hands\-on engineering role focused on backend development with Node.js, Express, MongoDB, and AWS, with strong emphasis on platform reliability, production support, and code quality. The ideal candidate brings solid experience designing backend systems, troubleshooting production issues, optimizing database performance, and collaborating across engineering and product teams in a distributed environment. **What You’ll Do** * Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and Express within the MERN technology stack * Build and support RESTful APIs and microservices that power platform functionality and integrations * Manage and support backend systems running on AWS infrastructure, including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting of services * Diagnose and resolve production issues, system bottlenecks, and performance problems to ensure platform reliability and stability * Develop and optimize MongoDB data models, indexing strategies, and queries to support scalable application performance * Write clean, maintainable, and well\-documented code following industry best practices and internal engineering standards * Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality, ensure consistency, and support knowledge sharing across the development team * Collaborate closely with frontend developers, infrastructure engineers, and product teams to deliver end\-to\-end platform features * Support ongoing platform enhancements, defect resolution, and backend development initiatives * Contribute to system design discussions and architectural improvements to support scalable and reliable platform growth * Support secure backend development practices, including authentication, authorization, and API protection * Assist in improving deployment workflows, monitoring visibility, and backend development efficiency across the platform **Qualifications \& Experience** * 4\+ years of backend development experience * Familiarity with React.js and frontend integration within the MERN stack * Strong expertise in Node.js, JavaScript, and Express.js fundamentals * Experience designing RESTful APIs and backend services at scale * Deep understanding of asynchronous programming and backend architecture * Strong hands\-on experience with databases, especially MongoDB and NoSQL systems * Proven skills in: \- Data modeling \- Indexing and query optimization \- Pagination and performance tuning * Experience troubleshooting production issues and improving backend reliability in live environments * Experience working with AWS infrastructure, including services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, and API Gateway * Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment workflows * Experience with Git and GitHub or GitLab\-based development practices * Understanding of scalability and performance trade\-offs * Solid understanding of backend security practices * Experience implementing authentication, authorization, and secure APIs * Awareness of common vulnerabilities and mitigation techniques * Strong ownership mindset and accountability * Ability to drive technical execution independently We are committed to providing equal opportunity for qualified applicants to contract positions, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
